Joy Robinson - Assistant Course Director

Joy studied at the Birmingham School of Music and the Guildhall School of Music and Drama. She participated in masterclasses with Elisabeth Schwarzkopf, Gerald Souzay and Sena Jurinac and studied with David Mason and Heather Harper. She was a finalist in the NFMS Concert Artist Award and winner of the Mario Lanza Foundation Scholarship. She has performed throughout Europe, notably singing the Junge Hirt in Tannhaüser at the Bayreuth Festival with Sinopoli, available as an acclaimed DVD. She also performed Elgar’s Apostles with Bonn Symphony Orchestra and the B Minor Mass with Bergen Philharmonic in Norway.

She recorded Rossini’s Petite Messe for Meridian Records with Combattimento, for whom she sang the röle of Dido in Dido and Aeneas in the Painted Hall of the Royal Naval College. Other UK performances include: the B Minor Mass in the Barbican; Verdi’s Requiem in Kidderminster Town Hall; Baba the Turk in Stravinsky’s The Rake’s Progress; and Mrs Noah in a number of venues including the 2009 Swaledale Festival. She has also performed in Lichfield Cathedral and Downside Abbey and early in her career toured the UK as a choral society soloist and music club recitalist under the auspices of the National Federation of Music Societies.

Hurn Court Opera

This exciting new company, which showcases some of the finest young singers in the country, was the brainchild of Lynton and Joy in 2017. For Hurn Court Opera she directed Handel's Acis and Galatea and Mozart's Die Zauberflöte, Bach's Kaffekantate and Purcell's Dido and Aeneas.

Joy lives in Bournemouth, with her husband Lynton and two children, where her dynamic approach has established her as one of the area’s leading singing teachers. In addition to her busy private practice she teaches in the flourishing music departments of Canford School and Talbot Heath School, whose famous alumni include the Soprano Kate Royal.
